Ukraine: There is a huge need in the Kherson region for access to health services.

The months of occupation in the Kherson region left significant marks on the people. Looted and destroyed hospitals, medical facilities without medicines, with limited staff (only 25 percent of the capacities of doctors and paramedics are currently available) and prevented long-term access to health care, especially for the elderly population and chronic patients, the area received. and its inhabitants to an emergency situation that requires urgent intervention and help.

MAGNA equipped 4 medical facilities in the Kherson region with 95 medical beds and medical supplies to cover the health care needs of 50,000 people. At the same time, MAGNA operates mobile health services in the region, and every day we deploy teams of doctors, nurses and psychologists to actively serve residents in remote and hard-to-reach areas of the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions. In the month of May alone, our teams treated 1,922 patients and provided 207 mental health consultations.

What is MAGNA doing in Ukraine?

During the month of May, the MAGNA psychologist conducted 207 online consultations for clients with various symptoms and concerns. The most common problems clients encountered are depression, anxiety and fear. Symptoms such as frequent mood swings, loss of self-confidence, recurrent thoughts of death or suicide, and insomnia were also common among clients. In addition, many clients reported experiencing impending doom or danger, a rapid, pounding heartbeat, and trembling or shaking.

Other problems for which clients seek help include problems communicating with children, increased conflict, apathy and loss of strength, and physical symptoms such as abdominal cramps and chest pain. Children also have behavioral problems such as aggression, difficulty relaxing and fear of the dark.

In summary, the population today faces a range of mental health problems, with depression, anxiety and fear being the most commonly reported problems. Many individuals also experience physical symptoms such as shaking, shaking, and chest pain. The prevalence of these symptoms underscores the importance of mental health help and the need for increased support and resources for those struggling with mental health issues.

With the onset of military actions in Ukraine, the incidence of heart diseases among the population increased due to various stress factors, as well as hypertension, diabetes and acute respiratory viral infections. These diseases represent serious public health problems facing the population. They are widespread and have a significant impact on people’s health and well-being. It is important to understand their causes, consequences and possible support measures in order to ensure effective medical care for those affected and to implement preventive strategies.

In the month of May, MAGNA mobile teams diagnosed and treated 1,922 patients in Mykolaiv and Kherson regions. Carrying out regular medical examinations, screenings and disease management continues to be a priority for our field teams.
